Caliope River Rest Area is located about 25km south west of Gladstone on the Caliope River just off the Bruce Highway. I first stopped here during a Gayndah picking break several years ago and I was impressed by its ambience.

It is a fairly popular camp spot but there is usually plenty of space for everyone with camping on both sides of the river. The north and south camps are joined by old Bruce Highway bridge which is now closed to traffic.

It is handy to the city of Gladstone and popular beach town of Tannam Sands. As it turns out its location was very convenient in my four stop drive to Bowen.
