Back in familiar Mareeba on the Atherton Tablelands. It’s like an old friend. Here and Atherton are the hill stations of the wet tropics where you come for relief from the hot and humid conditions on the coast, not to mention the hustle and bustle of Cairns City. The camp is just a bunch of caravan oldies who line their vans up neatly in very straight lines because that’s the way they like it. Every morning they dutifully wheel their toilet canisters to the dump point. I prefer just to use the toilet provided, that’s just me.

The day was spent in Cairns doing the first shopping round for my hiking gear collection.
